Kiewa River Trail

This is a four kilometres-return walk from the town of Mt Beauty, tracing the eastern bank of the lovely Kiewa River.

This sealed walk path follows the Kiewa River (west branch) as it threads through the north end of the lovely town of Mount Beauty in the Happy Valley region.

The walk trail begins just off the main Highway into town, but the scenery certainly improves as you pass farmland, shady groves, happy riverside campers (in warmer months) and then arrive at the inviting Pebble Beach area for a swim, if you fancy.

Pack your swimwear and some water shoes if the weather is warm, as the rocks are very slippery (and can be pointy and uncomfortable to walk on in bare feet).

When you approach the beach area the path splits – stay left and follow the river.

The ‘beach’ is really a calmer section of the river that opens up a little, though the current can still whistle along and there are smaller rapids to the north and south.

Currents can be quite strong (especially after rain). Always check conditions and it is not advisable for children or weaker swimmers (and never swim alone).

There are no toilets along the route.

Alpine Helicopters

Based at Jindabyne Airport in the Snowy Mountains. Scenic Helicopter flights. Flights are available all year round.

Soar high above it all and see the untouched places of Kosciuszko National Park from the sky.

Take a flight and land for lunch at an award-winning winery or brewery. See the mighty Hydro Electric Scheme.

From spectacular mountain flights to overnight stays at the seaside town of Bermagui, their experiences are something to add to the ‘favourite things to do’ plan. Their helicopters are fitted with powerful turbine engines.

Design a special charter itinerary of your own – their friendly staff is ready to assist and help make a booking. Visit them at the shop in Nuggets Crossing or call them any day of the week.

In winter – skiers, boarders and sightseeing guests have enjoyed the freedom of flying above it all between the resorts at Hotham, Falls Creek and Jindabyne.

The Heli-Hop takes about 40 minutes in a five-seat helicopter which cruises at over 200 km/h taking passengers between helipads at Jindabyne, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham. Along the flight path see some amazing snow-capped mountains such as Kosciuszko, Mt Bogong and historic cattlemen’s huts.
