BOGONG VILLAGE

CURRENTLY BOGONG VILLAGE NOT ACCESSABLE DUE TO A LANDSLIP AT THE ENTRY.
Halfway between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek on the Bogong High Plains Road, Bogong Village is a tranquil place to kick back on the shores of Lake Guy alongside the Alpine National Park. This mountain village, at 769m high, has a magical atmosphere that shifts with the seasons. Watch the flowers erupt in spring as you walk the water's edge; listen to the birdsong in the surrounding forest as you swim or fish for trout in summer; see the leaves in dazzling hues of red, yellow and orange flutter down from the trees in autumn; and crunch through the soft white snow in winter. Welcome to Bogong Village.

ABOUT BOGONG VILLAGE

Built in the 1940s for workers on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme, Bogong Village – located just 15km from Mount Beauty on Dhudhuroa Country – is owned by Grollo Group; however, visitors are welcome to stop and enjoy this beautiful pocket of the High Country on the banks of Lake Guy.

LAKE GUY

The beautiful Lake Guy, surrounded by steep alpine ash-clad mountains, is a scenic place to stop for a picnic. The lake, which is actually a dam created to produce hydro electricity, has BBQ facilities located at its southern end. While you're there, enjoy a swim, go kayaking or fish for trout. There is also a 3km walking trail that hugs the water's edge. The lake is fed by the pristine waters of Fainter Creek and Rocky Valley Creek, which meet here and form the east branch of the Kiewa River. Clover Dam is a smaller lake about 4.5km north of Lake Guy along the Bogong High Plains Road.

FAINTER FALLS

Less than 2km south of Bogong Village along the Bogong High Plains Road is the splendid Fainter Falls in the Alpine National Park. The waterfall can be seen anytime of year cascading down Fainter Creek on its way to form the Kiewa River. However, it is particularly impressive after a period of heavy rain or in spring when the snow begins to melt from the alpine peaks above.

From the parking area, it's an easy 1.5km-return walk to see the falls. The trail follows the creek through alpine ash forest to three vantage points, the last of which involves some stairs.
