HORSE RIDING

To ride your horse through the exposed tundra of the Alpine National Park and look across the mountaintops of the Great Dividing Range is an unforgettable experience. Bring your horse, or head out on a fully-supported horse riding tour, and explore the day rides and multi-day treks that traverse the park. There are also many great fire trails and roads to explore in the mountainous State Forests that surround Mount Beauty. So hook up the horse trailer and we'll see you soon.

WHERE TO RIDE

Horses are allowed into many parts of the Alpine National Park, with the exception of a few sensitive areas, and there are a number of campgrounds with horse yards to cater to multi-day pack riders. Permits are required for parties larger than five and it is highly recommended that you book the yards with Parks Victoria in advance as numbers are limited. Horses are permitted into the park between December and April.

There are also a lot of tracks to ride in the State Forests that surround Mount Beauty, with dirt roads that carve their way through the bush and up to summits with amazing views; a great option anytime of year.

HORSE RIDING TOURS

Transport yourself back to the days of old, when the High Country Cattlemen traversed the mountains on horseback like the Man From Snowy River. Suitable for both experienced riders and beginners, Bogong Horseback Adventures offers day rides and multi-day packhorse tours up into the spectacular landscapes of the Alpine National Park. Located at Spring Spur in Tawonga, Bogong Horseback Adventures has been family run since 1986. Spring Spur is a working horse farm and all horses are born and trained there in the foothills of Mount Bogong. The farm offers accommodation and serves up wonderful homegrown feasts to its guests.
